Spiritual Formation Bible Study: The Lord’s Prayer ~ Paradigm for Prayer & Rhythm for Life

Every Sunday, the Lord’s Prayer is recited in churches. As with all matters familiar, it is easy to become dull of listening. This course seeks to rekindle our appreciation and awe for this incredibly compact and all-encompassing prayer. We hope to rediscover and experience communion with our Father in heaven
as we study and recite this prayer together.

In this course, we will step through the 4 levels of the spiritual formation approach to reading scriptures. We will draw insights from the meditation of Christians from past centuries to present time (Origen, Augustine, Gregory of Nyssa, Luther, Calvin, Perkins, Martyn Lloyd Jones, Gonzalez).

CSF has used the Lord’s Prayer as a framework for daily prayer for the past 10 years. Each day we use one verse from the Lord’s Prayer to guide us to look at the Father’s world and to pray with the focus. We will share our community’s ongoing exploration of living in the Lord’s Prayer.

As accompaniment, we will listen to various versions of this prayer turned into music, hymns, chants by the different spiritual traditions (Greek, Latin and English).

The desired outcome is to recover awe and reverence for God that translates into our daily life and witness. All participants will be required to complete an assignment of praying through three cycles of the Lord’s Prayer.
